1967 MERCURY COMET CYCLONE – 427 V8

This 1967 Mercury Comet Cyclone showing 14,633 miles features the W-code 410HP, 427c.i. V8 and 4-speed manual transmission, fitted with a 3.89 standard axle ratio from the factory. Finished in correct Jamaican Yellow paint with black vinyl bucket seats. The vehicle was ordered with the following options: 4-speed manual transmission, electric clock, F70-14 wide oval tires, white sidewall nylon tires, AM radio, and complete tinted glass. Of the 427 Comets built, there were (8) W-codes that were Cyclones – with (3) being yellow, this was the only one built with a clock. This Cyclone was the 3rd built out of a total of (60) 427 Comets, and the 3rd built of the W-codes. From a Marti report with a copyright date of 2000, it was stated that (20) of the (60) 427 Comets were known at the time. This Cyclone was originally purchased at Pfeiffer Lincoln Mercury in Grand Rapids, MI by Walter Heim to be raced and street raced, but not professionally – the reason behind the low mileage. The vehicle is part of the estate of the current owner of the vehicle, who was the 8th owner. The Cyclone was purchased in 1988 by Jerry Sieradzki of South Bend, IN (7th owner), who completed a meticulous and detailed restoration of the vehicle. The shortblock and transmission are reportedly original but the heads, though correctly date coded, are replacements for the originals. In 1991, Sieradzki scored 6,966 out of 7,000 points at Musclecar Nationals – with the few points being deducted for minute imperfections like scratches in the hood moulding, loose kick panel, pitting on the surface of the rear axle, and that type of thing. Head Platinum Challenge Judge Greg Donahue stated, “it’s the nicest car I’ve ever judged. The car was more of a joy to judge than a chore.” The vehicle has been featured in numerous muscle car magazines, publications and calendars.

Although this car has sat for 10+ years, this Cyclone is still close to the same condition as it was during the 1991 Musclecar Nationals. The vehicle was located in the garage of the deceased owner’s home in Chicago and moved to East Tennessee during the settling of his estate. As would be expected from sitting so long, the current tires have flat spots on them that can be felt when driving/moving the vehicle. The vehicle runs and drives, but there is apparent lifter noise from the engine. In addition, there is antifreeze coming from the overflow – a new radiator cap was installed, but it is still leaking. This has not been evaluated further. Although, this is not causing the vehicle to overheat.

Incredible buying opportunity for this high quality, limited production show car in near concours condition.
